Social Media, which one is best for me
Wednesday 25th April 2012 11:10 AM
Good communication and engagement with your customers is crucial no matter what your approach to business is - Social Media has given companies the opportunity to enhance their reputation, build loyalty and to listen to what their customers have to say about their brand.
If your aim is to use Social Media to add value to your company/brand it must be done correctly using the most appropriate SM platform for your customers and your business. It takes a great deal of commitment to maintain a SM campaign, more so if you feel you need to use more than one SM profile. This alone will require careful consideration instead of signing up for the sake of it simply because someone you know has done so.
An article in the press today highlighted valid and crucial points relating to Social Media which was titled ''...Ensuring energy efficiency in your social media efforts'' . It doesn't go on to mention how you should never leave your computer terminal on standby as the title may imply, but more concerned with the energy it takes from you developing and maintaining your SM presence. Click here to read the full story.
If you feel SM or any of the other services we offer is the right way forward for your business, please complete the form in our contact us tab and we will get back in touch with you regarding your comments.
SerifNet will soon be delivering a Social Media Insight course - follow us on twitter to keep up to date with info @SerifNet or #SocialMediaInsight or click here to show your interest in attending.

Filemaker Update
Wednesday 22nd September 2010 12:01 PM
SerifNet has just completed setting up the online version of the FileMaker database allowing access to "A BIOGRAPHICAL DICTIONARY OF SCULPTORS IN BRITAIN 1660 - 1851" for The Henry Moore Institute. This online database will allow access to data that is now going to be constantly updated by the Institute. As the data is directly linked to the database the updates will become accessible immediately.
On another note, the introduction of FileMaker Go for the iPhone and iPad has allowed out clients access directly from iPhones onto their live data. FileMaker Go is fast becoming an invaluable tool to keep up to date on sales data and client information whilst on the move.
An important note is that any upgrades from FileMaker v8.0 must be completed by 23rd September or full licences will have to be purchased after that date.

Social Media Today!
Thursday 26th August 2010 5:34 PM
Social media has had a significant impact on society. Initially the platform was a way for people to connect and/or reconnect with one another, but over the course of time the concept has expanded to so much more.
Businesses have found social media marketing to be a very viable marketing channel and a good number of companies are heavily focusing efforts into social media. As a result this has trickled into the advertising approaches businesses use to reach consumers.
No longer are marketers looking solely at traditional forms of advertising such as print, radio and TV. Over the years they have been increasingly been navigating to the Internet as a means to reach consumers and social media has provided a ripe ground for attracting buyers.
Nielsen reported in March 2009 that two-thirds of the world's population visited social networking sites, and this data was collected back 2007 - 2008. Social networking has significantly grown since that time and 2010, Facebook alone had over 400 million members. Couple that with the number of people on Twitter, YouTube, blogs, MySpace and the thousands of other social networks (let us not exclude social bookmarking sites), and this is a staggering amount of time people spend on social networks by a huge percentage of society.
No wonder advertisers want in. It makes perfect sense to strive for visibility where target markets are hanging out.
Social media isn't overly expensive, while it takes significant amounts of effort and theoretically time is money, it is different than shooting commercials and buying air time or spending money taking out ads. What it does take is time, however with diligence and patience, establishing a strong social media presence can pay off. However, this time consumption can be offset by reducing costs of advertising and redirecting marketing efforts to the online platform.
Change is inevitable as one of the few things constant in life is change, and the Internet has revolutionized the way businesses can reach out to the consumer market. Businesses are no longer aloof corporations only visible on billboards and TV and out of reach for consumers to interact with, today's companies are directly communicating with their customers and focusing on building relationships. This is probably one of the biggest changes of all.
Social media marketing is where it is currently at because today's world is people centric and social media effectively fulfils this desire by providing a way to encourage ongoing connections and relationship building.
Socialisation and consumerism are rapidly blending as the offline and online worlds continue to collide. Businesses that do not hop on the social media train are likely to find themselves losing a competitive edge to others in their market.
